I created a drawing event that I named “Art Hikes”, where I have the opportunity to share my passion for hiking and art.

What actually is Mokuhanga? Good question. Let’s look at the Japanese word first.

The Komainu, or in English Lion-Dogs, are known as protectors and are found in pairs, facing each other, found at the front of shrines

The Japanese woodblock (mokuhanga) is a deceptively difficult process, but also quite simple and straightforward.

I'm planning to do a series of artworks based on an old, 10th century, Japanese folklore tale called The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

This piece is from a hike we did at the end of autumn 2020, along the southern edge of Lake Chuzenji in Nikko, Japan.

The next two pieces are both from Okutama, on a trail called Mukashi Michi. They're both from the same mountain range.

I focused on the reflections of the mountains on the surface of the lake. Which was challenging, but rewarding.
